History[]
Ginny was born Virginia Miller on November 6, 2004, in the state of Virginia to teenaged parents, Zion Miller and Georgia. Her father was seventeen years old and her mother fifteen when she was born. She lived with her parents and paternal grandparents, Lynette and Corbin Miller, in their home in Virginia for the first year of her life. Her mother was a homeless teenage runaway and gang member at the time of her birth.
When she was one year old, her mother left her grandparents’ home. They lived in New Orleans at the La Chateau Greene hotel from the time she was one to two years old. During this time, she was watched by her aunt Maddie and a man named Anthony Greene while her mother worked as a maid; this man would become her first stepfather. She was briefly in foster care, separated from Georgia when she was 2 years old as her mother was incarcerated for some of this time. After her mother killed her first stepfather and had the gang she was affiliated with render him a missing person, they left New Orleans and moved back to Virginia. There, she lived with her father, Zion, from the age of two to three before her mother separated from him again.
She moved to Austin, Texas, when she was around three or four years old and lived in an apartment with her mother. They lived in relative poverty, with Georgia having to rely on government assistance and use Ginny to steal and trick to provide for both of them, in addition to working long and odd hours. When she was four years old, her mother began a relationship with her second stepfather, Gil, who looked after them financially.
When Ginny was seven, her mother had her half-brother, Austin. Shortly after, when Ginny was around ten years old, Gil went to prison for fraud and embezzlement; in an incident prior, he banged on the door yelling at her mother, nearly breaking the door lock.
After Gil went to prison, she moved in with her dad briefly. She moved in the middle of the school year, and her mom would often pull her out of school at random times. While living there, she was looked after by her grandmother for a while.
After her parents separated for the third time, she, Austin, and her mom lived out of a car, lying to her dad about their living situation. She grew up witnessing her mother commit crimes to provide for them and sometimes covering for her.
Ginny grew up in poverty, moving constantly. As a result, she struggling to make friends and bond with her peers until the age of fifteen, having lived in twelve different homes in the first fifteen years of her life. She often slept in the family car while the family was homeless, lived without electricity, and resided in trailer parks for some of her childhood. She had multiple stepfather figures, including at least three other men named Omid, Louis, and Tucker, with whom she lived while they were dating her mother. She took care of her younger brother, Austin like a second parent. She had little contact with other family members, aside from her mother and half-brother, until the age of fifteen, having been estranged from both her paternal and maternal families. She lived in Maryland, New Orleans, Houston, and Austin, spending about half of her childhood in various neighborhoods across Texas. Her mother married Kenny when she was around fifteen.
Throughout the Series[]
Season 1[]
Pilot[]
At her school in Texas, Ginny mentions how she got the sex talk when she was seven years old from her mother. Her mom went on to tell Ginny that in the end, “all men want is sex” and that women should "always get something in return." She calls it a very effective sex talk as she’s still a virgin. Ginny then receives bad news that her stepfather has been in an accident and didn’t make it.
Now in Wellsbury, Massachusetts, Ginny notices Marcus across the road, sneaking out of his room.
The next day, Ginny attends her first class, and despite her teacher's many corrections, he insists on calling her Virginia. Eventually, she grows tired of the way her teacher treats her, and she decides to speak her mind. Thus, she proceeds to tell her teacher that the syllabus is white, male-dominated, and she wants to receive a more stimulating education. The teacher says he doesn’t like political grandstanding and outbursts. However, Maxine, one of her classmates, puts her hand up and defends Ginny.
After class, Marcus introduces himself to Ginny. He tells her that her mother asked him for weed. Maxine tells Marcus to leave her new friend alone and then reveals he is her twin brother. She introduces Ginny to her friends and asks them to be nice.
At lunch, Maxine takes Ginny out for tacos, and she sees her mother with the Mayor, becoming annoyed. Ginny then heads to Maxine’s house, and they chill. Maxine asks Ginny if she’s ever had a boyfriend because her friend Hunter is interested in her, to which she replies no. She then talks about her mother, and how she always finds a new guy, and they move time and time again because of it. Maxine tells her not to move again because she likes her.
At the house, when Maxine leaves the room momentarily, Marcus asks Ginny if she’s stalking him as he walks up to her. She was extremely nervous being close to him, but he was grabbing some weed that was stashed in his sister’s room.
When Ginny leaves Maxine’s house, she gets on Marcus’s motorbike and rides it around the block. Marcus is angry, and then Ginny kisses him, which seems to calm him down. After the kiss, another girl arrives to pick Marcus up. When Ginny returns home, Georgia is upset with her and tells her to stay away from Marcus, saying she taught her to have a better life. Ginny says that she saw her with a new man today and slammed the door in her face.
Maxine arranges a date between Hunter and Ginny, who admits to being nervous because she’s never been on a date before. Still, Ginny is embarrassed to be even more so when her mother shows up at school to make up after their recent argument. They enjoy a car picnic when she asks Ginny for forgiveness. Eventually, Georgia admits that she saw Ginny making the same mistakes she did when she witnessed Ginny on Marcus’s bike, which brought back memories of a boy she got involved with. Ginny tells her mother that Marcus is a jerk and has her first-ever date with someone else.
Hunter wants to get straight to talking about their lives on the date. When Hunter drops her off, Ginny gets super nervous, and instead of kissing her, he hugs her. Georgia hoots at them, and Ginny is embarrassed by the lack of boundaries.
Later that night, Marcus sneaks into Ginny’s bedroom and asks if she likes Hunter. She tells him she does, but then he kisses her. He tells her he can’t stop thinking about her, so Ginny returns the kiss, and they hook up. Afterwards, as Ginny is about to tell him that she has just lost her virginity, Marcus tells her that he’s got to get going. He also wants her to keep it a secret because of Padma, plus he doesn’t want Ginny to ruin her chances with Hunter.
In a flashback, Ginny and Georgia get into an argument when Ginny tells Georgia that Kenny is not her father. Georgia points out that her birth father isn’t around. Afterwards, Kenny gets inappropriately handsy with Ginny, which unbeknownst to Ginny or Kenny, Georgia witnessed.
At school, Ginny sees Marcus kissing his girlfriend against the locker. At that moment, Ginny mentions how her mother always talked about power and control. She realizes that after the passion she felt for Marcus doesn’t pan out as she had hoped, the power is starting to look good. She approaches Padma and tells her she has something on her shirt. Marcus gets nervous with this exchange, believing Ginny was going to reveal that the two of them had sex. But then Ginny states that for the first time in her life, she’s starting to understand her mother.
It's A Face Not A Mask[]
After sleeping with Marcus, Ginny heads to the pharmacy and asks for the Plan B pill. She reads the leaflet inside the box to see the side effects of swallowing the pill due to her anxiety. Maxine picks her up to go to a social gathering.
At the social gathering, the teens are smoking weed through a bong one of them made in a ceramics class. Ginny tries it for the first time.
Samantha tells Ginny that she once dated Hunter, and all the girls talk about him. She then tells Ginny that she’s going to have a baby with a black man so she can have cute mixed babies. Ginny blatantly doesn’t like her, and it becomes obvious that references to skin colour are pissing her off. The topic of Star Is Born is brought up, and Ginny discusses all the versions. It becomes abundantly clear that this is her first time getting high, as she goes into way too much detail about the environment that she’s in.
When Ginny gets home, her mother wants all the gossip from the social gathering. She talks about her “first high experience”. Georgia asks Ginny to promise to talk to her before she loses her virginity. The mother and daughter swear to have no secrets from each other.
At school the next day, Ginny tells Marcus that it’s been weird since they had sex. When he brushes it off, she tells Marcus that she took a pill to be safe before walking off, looking annoyed. She drops a tampon in class, and it hits Hunter in the face, and she’s embarrassed. Afterwards, Hunter is understanding and offers Ginny some salty crisps, as apparently, that will help. Ginny goes shopping with friends, and they start stealing clothes in a shop. However, they are caught.
In school the next day, Maxine tells Ginny that she got a lead in a show. She also tells Ginny to ignore Abby and the others, admitting that she feels dismayed that they had involved her in the shoplifting.
Ginny’s problems mount up, and in the evening, Marcus visits Ginny in her bedroom through the window. He asks her if they are cool. Ginny goes on a rant about how she feels left out in this town. She then admits to having just lost her virginity with him, and how she’s one of seven black kids in the school, and she’s been caught shoplifting. She then cries, and Marcus hugs her. It suddenly dawns on Marcus that it was her first time, and he kisses her. She kicks him out after he suggests they have sex again.
The next day, Norah and Abby visit Ginny. They bring her makeup and hang out with her. Ginny then narrates how makeup works best if no one knows you are wearing it because “it’s a face, not a mask”. She believes she hides like her mother, too.
Next Level Rich People Shit[]
Ginny is conflicted romantically after she dreams about hooking up with Hunter. But then Marcus walks in, punches the boy, and then hooks up with Ginny.
In the morning, she tells her mother that she’s off to Sophomore Sleepover and asks for money. Not knowing that this is an issue since Georgia doesn’t have access to money due to Kenny’s ex-wife contesting the will.
Ginny understandably feels hurt over Marcus, and just as Ginny starts work at Joe’s cafe, Marcus walks in and asks her to do “service with a smile”. Joe oversees the transaction and tells her not to be hostile to customers. Later on, Ginny enjoys socializing with friends and Hunter on social media. There are plenty of group messages and direct messages to her where Abby and Maxine bitch to her directly about each other.
Ginny and her group of friends head to the Sophomore Sleepover, prepped and ready. They all wear shirts with the first letter of their names, which spells out MANG.
At the sophomore sleepover, Ginny asks her mother to stay out of her way. Once the party begins, Hunter kisses Ginny in the photo booth.
Later, one of the adults ruins Ginny’s hair. She ends up in the showers to sort it out, and Marcus is in there as well. Ginny asks Marcus why he isn’t into the sleepover, and he mentions that it’s not his thing. He then tells her that he doesn’t have a girlfriend because he doesn’t see Padma as someone he’s committed to. Ginny and Marcus jokingly do different accents together.
After a deep conversation about privilege, Marcus tears up and tells Ginny that his best friend died the previous year. As they are about to kiss, Georgia and Maxine enter, and they have to hide. When Maxine leaves, Georgia senses that someone is in the shower, but Georgia distracts her mother by leaving Marcus behind. Georgia calls the party “Next Level Rich People Shit”. They end up arguing, and Ginny calls her mother jealous because she never got to do social events like this.
When the Sophomore Sleepover finishes, Hunter asks Ginny if she will be his girlfriend, and as he asks, Marcus walks by. She accepts his proposal, and Marcus looks annoyed.
Ginny narrates that her mother has big dreams and wants to give her this life, a life she never had.
Later on, just as Hunter puts her arm around her, Ginny sees Marcus.
Lydia Bennett is Hundo A Feminist[]
Ginny begins to feel insecure as Padma has now joined Hunter’s band, and all the boys call her hot. She’s also mad that she can’t get a moment alone with him.
Later, Ginny and her friends watch porn together and talk about sex in Maxine’s room. She admits to her friends that she has become frustrated that Hunter hasn’t done anything to her. Marcus listens in and hears Ginny say that “men prioritize their pleasure and do not know what they are doing”. When Ginny gets home, she lies on her bed with her top off, and her mother, Georgia, walks in. She sends the photo to Maxine first, and she approves it before sending it to Hunter, who begins to type, but then stops. Feeling underappreciated, she looks across the road and sees Marcus, who immediately texts her. She sends the picture to Marcus, who calls her sexy. He asks for more pics.
Ginny then becomes curious and uses her electric toothbrush to pleasure herself. The next morning, she gets a text from Hunter saying he’s sorry, but he was busy with homework and ended up falling asleep.
In class, Ginny talks about Lydia Bennet and her actions, and she asks whether she was shamed and gets angry when a few male students suggest she was a slut and misbehaved. In the middle of class, Georgia arrives at school and takes Ginny away to the clinic to put her on the pill. Ginny asks her mother how she knows what to do with men.
Ginny and her friends eventually decide to attend the Battle of the Bands, where Hunter will be performing. Before Hunter goes on stage, Ginny tells Hunter that she feels he doesn’t like her. Hunter gets on stage and dedicates a song to Ginny. Marcus looks on, and he looks extremely jealous as Ginny looks happy and overwhelmed by the performance.
Afterwards, Hunter tells Ginny that he didn’t respond to the photo because he respects her. Ginny tells Hunter that she wants him to think she’s hot.
As Ginny lies to Hunter, she gets a text from Marcus, leaving her quite troubled and conflicted.
Boo, Bitch[]
Hunter’s song and performance about Ginny are now on YouTube. At school, Ginny’s popularity has risen dramatically, with everyone greeting her, and she seems to like it. Meanwhile, her friends are talking about a Halloween party.
While at work, Ginny overhears Padma and her friend; the friend tells her to drop Marcus because he will not commit to her. Her friends are at another table, and they decide to dress up as Britney Spears in some of her more iconic looks for the Halloween party. One of her friends shows her the video and the new views. Unfortunately, her eyes end up zeroing in on one of the comments, which calls her a “half breed”.
Ginny heads to Hunter’s house for dinner. The family loves the song Hunter made for her and makes some jokes at his expense. The conversation turns to Abby, where Ginny finds out that Abby’s parents are going through a divorce. Hunter’s mother starts to pressure her son about college recommendations. The topic of Ginny’s parents comes up, and Ginny rambles about her upbringing.
At the town’s annual Halloween festival, Ginny heads over with her friends, and they do face painting for people. Marcus turns up and tells her he wants “a heart” drawn on his face, so immaturely, she draws a penis on him instead. On the microphone at the festival, Cynthia announces that the Mayor was on a date with his assistant. She formally announces her candidacy for Mayor of Wellsbury. Georgia thinks it’s a disaster and tells Ginny to take Austin home.
At the “Boos and Booze” party, Ginny and her friends reveal themselves to the rest of the partygoers in their Britney-themed costumes. As Ginny dances, Bracia turns up, and she’s bothered that Ginny has decided to dress up as Britney. Ginny then walks off a little irked and once again looks at the YouTube video for the song Hunter dedicated to her, where she sees another comment saying, “this is the whitest black girl ever”, and she begins to cry.
At Marcus and Maxine’s house, Ginny apologizes to Marcus. Ginny puts Maxine to bed and keeps quiet, so Ellen doesn’t find out that her daughter is completely wasted. Marcus also helps out. He leaves his sister a bucket in case she is sick. Ginny apologizes to Marcus and admits to being a dick. She admits she doesn’t want to mess everything up with Maxine and everyone else. Marcus suggests that they be friends.
When Georgia returns home, there are a couple of people in the living room. When Ginny returns, she learns it’s her cousin Caleb and her aunt Maddie. Ginny is annoyed because her mother stated that she didn’t have any family and that her parents died. Maddie laughs, stating that their parents are not dead. Ginny is angry at her mother, but Georgia says they can stay the night. Ginny doesn’t believe Wellsbury has changed anything and states she will not be “trash” like her.
I'm Triggered[]
Ginny vents to Hunter about her mother. Hunter suggests that she should try to get to know her mother a bit better and her extended family, but Ginny wonders what else her mother is hiding.
In the present day, while working and serving her friends, Maddie turns up, and Ginny is embarrassed.
Now that Ginny has established a group of friends, she appears to be comfortable enough in confiding in them as much as possible, but her anxiety continues to build up.
Ginny tells Maxine and Marcus that Georgia has a sister whom she lied about. She states that all this secrecy is affecting her. Marcus suggests that she talk to her aunt to find out more. Ginny has to return home and look after Austin and Caleb because Maddie and Georgia are too drunk at Joe’s. Marcus and Maxine help her out.
Ginny eventually asks Maddie about her grandparents. She tells Ginny that her grandparents were crazy, and Georgia looked after her when they were younger. Maddie then reveals that she and Georgia do not have the same father.
At home the next day, Ginny finds a secret stash under the floorboards. It’s photos of Georgia and Maddie. She also finds a Blood Eyes jacket (the biker gang Georgia was in) and a pistol. Georgia returns home and believes she has an intruder, so she draws out a second pistol. She points it at Ginny.
Ginny wants answers, but Georgia tells her she is her family. Ginny calls her Mary, so Georgia slaps her. Later on, Georgia apologizes for slapping her; she believes that if she knew her past, she wouldn’t look at her in the same way. Georgia then goes on to say that “the past needs to stay in the past”.
Ginny narrates that her mother deals with her problems by ignoring them. But she states it’s her life too. Sick of all the secrets and lies coming from her mother, Ginny rings her father.
Happy Sweet Sixteen, Jerk[]
Mother and daughter continue to be at a crossroads.
Ginny narrates that Georgia always “goes big” for birthdays and pretends that nothing is wrong. Despite Ginny still being angry with her, Georgia sings Happy Birthday to her daughter, who has just turned 16. Ginny queries if, now that she’s 16, she will be treated as an adult. She further asks if the two will share secrets, like the fact that Georgia’s real name is Mary. Georgia plants the cake in Ginny’s face and says, “Happy Sweet Sixteen, Jerk” instead.
At school, Ginny’s friends have arranged decorations for her sixteenth birthday. Hunter arrives and does a tap-dancing performance for Ginny to the song “Happy Birthday”. He has a dance troupe with him, and they join in.
At home, Ginny is still mad and asks her mother for a real conversation, and storms off.
As Ginny plays the piano in her room, Marcus sneaks in and plays it. He gives her a birthday gift. It’s a painting of her. They hug, and as sexual tensions rise, Ginny tells him that she has a boyfriend. She then brings up Padma and tells Marcus he’s inconsiderate about her feelings. As a double blow, Ginny tells Marcus that she’s planning to have sex with Hunter.
During family breakfast, Paul joins in, and Ginny starts listing the boyfriends her mother has had. Suddenly, her friends come over for a birthday surprise. There’s a makeup corner, pedicures, and hairstyling. Ginny is still not happy with her mother and has other plans. She sweetens up her mother and asks for a champagne toast for her birthday. When her mother opens the cabinet, her friends raid it for alcohol.
After the surprise birthday, the girls pretend to have a slumber party in Ginny’s bedroom, but they get ready and sneak out to go to another party. Hunter talks to Ginny privately in a bedroom. They end up hooking up, and Ginny tells Hunter that she’s on the pill and gives him consent for everything. Hunter tells her it’s her birthday, so he goes down on her.
The party continues, and Ginny gets very drunk. She tells everyone that she loves them and gives a speech, in which she admits that she never had friends before and calls them her family. The police then arrive, and everyone flees. Paul tells Georgia that Ginny is being put into a police car, but Georgia pours a glass of wine and tells Paul she’s going to bed.
Paul picks up Ginny from the police station. He tells her she’s a good kid and a great sister and that Austin is lucky to have her. Paul also admits he loves her mother. Ginny tells Paul she’s never seen her mother this happy.
Ginny returns home, and Georgia tells her she cannot lie, and she’s furious. Ginny calls her a liar. Georgia insists that she keeps secrets to keep her safe, but then goes into a rant that she was abused by her stepdad her whole childhood and was molested most nights while her mother was asleep in the next room, which is why she ran away at 14. She then tells Ginny she has been homeless and in jail.
Ginny is emotionally affected by her mother’s rant and vomits. She apologizes for sneaking out and for the abuse her mother went through. Georgia tells her she’s okay, but the abuse never really leaves her. She shows Ginny a photo of her and her father when they were younger. Georgia admits she needs to act like Ginny is growing up, and Ginny admits that she needs to mature. While eating cake, Ginny tells Georgia that Hunter went down on her.
Georgia leaves the room and tells Ginny that they are broke because Kenny’s ex-wife contested the will. Ginny narrates that Georgia always pushes them to be strong, but she gets it now as she knows her mother was protecting them. She loves her mother, but she doesn’t want to be her. Ginny wishes her father were here.
Check One, Check Other[]
After her sweet 16, Ginny and Georgia appear to have reached a good understanding with each other, but Zion's return to their lives causes tension once more.
Meanwhile, the elections for the city’s mayor position continue heating up, now with Cynthia making personal attacks and focusing on Paul’s relationship with Georgia. This irks Ginny, who confides in Maxine that she is annoyed at the methods Cynthia is using.
The two girls then overhear Marcus and Padma talking, which leads to the two officially breaking up. This reminds Ginny that every time her father and her mother get together, it always ends in pain.
A school announces a national essay contest, with the question being asked, “Where do you belong?” and Ginny seems interested in it. As Abby needs Ginny in her “time of need”, Ginny’s father, Zion, turns up at the school with his leather jacket and motorbike helmet on. Hunter introduces himself as the boyfriend. Ginny rides back home with her father, and Marcus introduces himself to him as well. When they head inside, Zion calls Georgia “peach”.
Eventually, Ginny tells her father about the essay contest and how she plans to write about Wellsbury because she likes it there. Ginny subsequently reveals that Georgia is dating someone, which is a brief, awkward moment.
Late into the night, Ginny tells her mother to be careful with her father, as the whole town is watching due to the mayoral campaign. She likes Paul and has never seen her mother this happy. He wants Zion to be a father this time and not Georgia’s ex.
Ginny reads her essay to Zion, who tells her it reads well, but he wants to know if Wellsbury is her place. Ginny admits to feeling stressed out about it, knowing the essay helps with getting into colleges. Zion wants to know where Ginny belongs and takes her to a slam poetry night. Ginny brings up Georgia’s grandparents and sisters. Zion tells Ginny that her mother did everything she needed to be the “best mom”.
Ginny tells Zion that he needs him and wants him around longer, and admits that she doesn’t want him to start something with her mother and leave again. Zion gets on the stage and talks about himself, Ginny, and how his little girl is growing up. As part of his speech, he tells her he will stay around.
When they return home, they feel the wrath of Georgia, who has learned information she did not want to know. Georgia reveals that she saw Marcus sneaking into their window — she explains it in slam poetry form and comically calls it “Motherhood”. Ginny is in shock and states that they are just friends, but Georgia doesn’t buy it. Ginny calls her the worst mother in the world and storms off. Zion is smug that he knew about the vibe between Marcus and Ginny.
In class, Ginny reads out her essay. She does it in slam poetry form. She discusses feeling like an impostor and being confined to a box. The students love it, and Maxine receives a standing ovation. However, Ginny doesn’t win the round; Hunter does. She approaches the teacher, and he tells her it didn’t fit in the parameters and it was too unconventional. Ginny is understandably frustrated.
Meanwhile, Hunter hooks up with Ginny, and he’s nervous about taking it further. Ginny brings up the essay, where Hunter tells her that the essay was unconventional and the “rules were the rules”, further supporting the evidence that he does not understand her as much as Marcus. The pair argues about stereotypes and their own identities. It eventually turns to the two throwing insults at each other about “who is more white”. Hunter leaves as Ginny cries on her bed.
Later, Ginny tells Zion that he’s black and his mother is white. Zion tells her she will never be happy until she accepts who she is.
On the news, Norah’s mother reveals that there are guns in Georgia’s house for Cynthia.
Norah apologizes, but Ginny changes the conversation and asks Maxine if she had sex, and the girls all giggle.
As Ginny’s about to burn herself with a lighter on her legs, which is how she self-harms, Marcus comes through her bedroom window. He’s concerned about what she’s about to do. Ginny tells Marcus that their friendship is not healthy. Marcus tells Ginny that he loves her, but she laughs it off and tells him he’s incapable of anything real and tells him to get out. She says it with venom in her voice that seems to cut through Marcus deeply. He tears up, but she continues ordering him to get out.
Ginny then narrates how pain can be overpowering. As she narrates, Marcus rides off on his bike, and a crash is heard in the distance.
Feelings Are Hard[]
Ginny narrates how everyone thinks that “love is beautiful”, but she disagrees as she believes it’s painful and inconvenient. She stays up late at night, continuously texting Marcus, trying to apologize.
The next morning, Georgia tells Ginny that Marcus is having a CAT scan but will be okay. Suddenly, she sees Marcus return, and she watches him with despair from the window.
Later, Georgia picks Ginny up from work, and they both sigh as they enter the car. They both discuss their complicated relationships with men. Ginny tells Georgia not to let their father blow up their lives. Georgia calls her moment with Zion a momentary lapse. When they get home, Zion is cooking for the family and Ellen’s family. He tells Georgia that they could work now, as they are adults.
Ginny visits Marcus’s room and tries speaking to him, but then Padma enters. She asks Ginny if she likes him and then tells her that he’s selfish and will hurt her. As Padma leaves, Ginny tells her not to tell anyone about her and Marcus.
Ginny tries again with Marcus and visits his room. This time he’s awake, and she apologizes for all the mean things she said. Marcus tells her he wasn’t ignoring her texts, and his phone is probably on the side of the road somewhere. The pair hug and nearly kiss, and then Abby catches them. Abby tells Ginny that her friend Maxine is devastated right now, and she is not even going to consider what she saw. She does warn Ginny that she is not breaking up the group and to stop being selfish.
Zion goes to see Ginny at work, and immediately Ginny senses that he’s leaving without her straight away, and is dismayed that she believed he stayed. As he tries to explain, Ginny storms off.
Ginny visits Marcus in his bedroom. She tells him her father left, but follows it with, “I think I love you, too”. Ginny admits that she tried to fight it. She also admits that she loves Hunter, too, but she thinks about Marcus all the time. Marcus grabs her, and they kiss, and it quickly turns sexual.
Afterwards, Marcus reveals to Ginny that he was a virgin when they first had sex and wanted her to think he was cool. Marcus then delves into how dark it got after his friend died, and he scared himself. He then brings up how he saw Ginny with the lighter about to self-harm. Ginny explains how the burning helps her concentrate on her exploding feelings. Marcus asks her to get help, and she agrees. Soon after, Hunter texts her, asking her if they can talk.
When Ginny returns home, Austin is in her room, which makes her jump. He seems upset and shows how Georgia has been storing letters from him to his father. Ginny vows to send them to his father for him.
Later, Maxine finds Marcus’s phone and sees the texts between him and Ginny, including a photo where she is wearing only a bra.
The Worst Betrayal Since Jordyn and Kylie[]
The next day at school, Maxine and the others ignored Ginny. They know about her and Marcus. She tries to talk to Maxine in class, but she continues to ignore her. The teacher discusses the “N” word and notes that it can be an upsetting term, concluding with “right, Ginny?” Overwhelmed by Maxine ignoring her and the teacher’s insensitive and quite racist discussion on the “N” word, Ginny heads into the bathroom, where she jumps into Bracia. They relate to the English teacher and believe he is the guy from Get Out. Bracia talks about how she can’t modify the same way Ginny can due to her darker skin color.
At work, Ginny asks Samantha if she’s heard any rumours. Hunter then walks in and tells her he doesn’t want their relationship to end, saying, “I love you.” Ginny is in complete shock, and Joe has to remind her that she’s working. She’s not okay, so Joe pulls her aside. Ginny explains that in 24 hours, two different boys have told her they love her, but she only wants to be with Marcus.
Before Ginny heads out, Joe notices her handling a pair of super rare Ray-Bans. Ginny explains how her mother was given these glasses when she was younger, and it changed her life.
At a school play event, Ginny approaches Maxine backstage, and she reveals that she knows that she had sex with her brother before walking onto the stage. Between going backstage and acting on stage, Maxine keeps venting at Ginny. Ginny tells her she is her best friend, and she didn’t know what to do because she loves her.
After one of the acts in the play, Maxine wants to talk in the hallway. Ginny apologizes and tells her she didn’t want to screw up. Abby and Norah enter the hallway and attempt to calm the situation. Ginny then mistakenly accuses Abby of telling Maxine about her and Marcus, which makes it worse. Maxine explains how she’s sick of everyone hurting her. And then it gets worse; Hunter arrives in the hallway, and Abby tells him that Ginny cheated on him with Marcus.
Marcus also shows up, and he says it was a mistake. Hunter walks off and says he was great to her. He punches Hunter before he leaves. Maxine goes back for the second act and tells Ginny and Abby to stay away from her. Ginny has lost everything, from having a secure group of friends she considers family to having nothing.
With a teary-eyed Ginny left in the corridor, she asks Marcus what he meant by “a mistake”. Marcus says he thought it was the right thing to say. Ginny tells Marcus that Padma was right because he’s only going to hurt her in the end.
Georgia speaks to Ginny about having sex with Marcus. Ginny makes a sly comment saying her mother goes through men faster than Taylor Swift, but then she admits it’s all her fault. Georgia doesn’t understand why the two of them were sneaking around. Ginny then lists how she’s “awful, a bitch and a liar”, but she asks whom she learned it from. Ginny brings up Zion and then reveals to her mother that she sent the letters from Austin to his father.
Georgia asks if she put a return address on and explains the reason she doesn’t tell her anything is that she doesn’t know who her daughter is anymore. Ginny tells her she’s her mother.
The next day, Ginny goes to school, she’s walking with purpose, and she sees the English teacher. She asks what his problem is because she has the highest grade in the class, and he always targets her. She accuses him of being racist. The English teacher states that he is not a racist and voted for Obama twice. Ginny threatens to go to the school board unless he gives her a glowing college recommendation letter, claiming she’s now taking control.
At school during lunchtime, Ginny has no one to sit with. She joins Bracia’s table. She listens to Bracia’s friends talk, but she feels out of place.
At work, Ginny bumps into the private investigator who wants to talk to her about Georgia, but he refers to her by her alias, Mary Atkins. He tells her that he thinks her mother is dangerous and murders Kenny. The PI mentions that in New Orleans, Georgia, he temporarily lost custody of Ginny while operating an underground poker ring. He then shows her the wolfsbane plant and explains how it’s extremely poisonous and can cause heart attacks.
Ginny remembers seeing her mother making a smoothie and putting petals inside it for her deceased husband, but she also remembers Kenny inappropriately touching her up. She also remembers seeing Kenny’s ashes in her house. The PI tells Ginny that she's not the same as her mother and wonders if there’s anything she wants to share with him. Ginny readjusts, smiles, and tells the PI that he’s mistaken and that her mother loved Kenny.
Ginny returns home, and Georgia is excited that they are a family and that they are about to win an election. Ginny runs through memories in her head: the poisonous flower, the guns, and her mother slapping her. When she goes upstairs, Ginny puts on her mother’s motorbike leather jacket and packs her bags. She also notices that Kenny’s ashes are gone. When she heads outside, she sees Marcus, as she’s getting ready to leave town.
Marcus tells her it wasn’t a mistake. Ginny tells him he’s forgiven and that they can talk about it later. Marcus can tell something is off, but lets her go anyway. She grabs the poisonous plant and torches it with Austin. Ginny tells Austin that they need to leave the town.
Meanwhile, Ginny is on the road with Austin. Georgia narrates that her daughter will never have to live in fear as she did. However, Ginny believes she must keep running. Like mother, like daughter.
Season 2[]
Ginny lives with Zion for a few weeks. She struggles with self-harming and agrees to go to therapy after her dad finds out. She goes back to live with Georgia, along with Austin, and reconnects with Marcus. She apologizes, and they make up. Marcus sleeps over.
Ginny is still on the outs with Max and the girls. She struggles, but she also continues to see Marcus, who becomes a source of comfort and support. Eventually, when Max realizes Ginny and Marcus are in love, she forgives them and is excited for them. They become boyfriend and girlfriend officially.
Ginny goes to therapy and makes slow progress, starting to open up about her relationship with her mother. Her mom even goes to therapy with her one day and realizes how Ginny is struggling. Georgia tries to be there more for Ginny, claiming she always wants what's best for her. Ginny starts to come around and open up again to Georgia.
Ginny and Marcus break up when he is going through a depressive episode. Ginny is crushed. She reaches out to her mom for comfort and encourages her to fight for what she loves, Paul, and her life in Wellsbury.
Season 3[]
Ginny makes her first appearance of the season, walking into school and being met with a lot of stares, as Georgia’s arrest at the wedding two days ago is now common knowledge around Wellsbury. As she walks past some gossiping students, Max runs up to Ginny, barks at the gossiping students, and comforts Ginny while asking her how she’s doing. Ginny reveals she hasn’t seen or heard from Georgia since the arrest. They approach Abby and Norah at Berry Tree, who also comfort her, and ask her why she even came to school, knowing they wouldn’t go if their mom were arrested. Ginny defends her choice by claiming they have nothing to hide, considering Georgia is innocent, and proceeds to her history class.
As Ginny walks past a guy who makes a crass comment to her about her mother being allowed to kill him, Marcus takes notice of it and immediately defends her by slamming the bully into the lockers. Marcus asks Ginny how she’s doing, and later the two end the conversation awkwardly, realizing they’re no longer a couple and thus no longer show affection. In class later, Ginny is seen noticing some students on the other side of the classroom gossiping about her again, and secretly slaps her wrist with a rubber band to cope with the embarrassment.
Ginny walks into the bathroom later and is met by Samantha and Abby. Samantha empathizes with Ginny and embraces her, much to Ginny’s surprise. Ginny tells Abby that she regrets going to school today and asks Abby if she’s willing to skip class, as she's fed up with all the bullying she experienced today. Abby agrees, and together they hang out in her room. Nancy (Abby’s mother) greets Ginny and asks her how she’s doing. Ginny vents to Abby about her family life, responds humorously to Abby’s confession about hanging out with Press, and asks Abby about Norah’s odd demeanor earlier that day, which Abby rationalizes by claiming Bev (Norah’s mother) is close with Cynthia and a bit uptight. When Max texts Ginny if she wants to hang out, Ginny reveals she’s at Abby’s. At one point, Ginny mentions she should call her therapist again.
Whilst at Dr. Lily’s (her therapist), Ginny expresses her concern for Georgia’s potential future prison sentence, which Dr. Lily empathizes with. When asked if she has relapsed in self-harming, Ginny reveals she hasn’t, and Dr. Lily claims the reason she stopped is likely because she started loving herself.
When Ginny returns home to Austin and Paul, Paul reveals that they are allowed to visit Georgia at the police station today. Paul encourages them to be thoughtful and positive when faced with Georgia, which they agree to, knowing Georgia must be scared. Once at the visit, Georgia is happy to see them and answers their questions. Georgia reveals she needs both of them to be at the court session tomorrow. When Ginny, Austin, and Paul return home, Zion awaits them with dinner and encourages Ginny to attend the new poetry class he signed her up for. Despite Ginny’s doubts, she gives in.
Ginny arrives at the poetry class and when asked for her name, tells the teacher her name is ‘Gia’. When asked about what poetry means to her, she claims it’s about expressing her feelings through words, an answer the poetry teacher (Mr. Kay) approves of. Mr. Kay instructs everyone to write a poem for the next class.
Later that evening, Ginny and Marcus hang out at a local playground and discuss Ginny’s life since Georgia’s arrest. At one point, Marcus reveals the jungle gym they’re sitting in is the same place he used to hang out in with his old best friend, who died of cancer sometime before season 1, which Ginny notices again when seeing ‘M+A’ scratched onto the wall, and empathizes. Marcus claims he hasn’t gone back to the jungle gym since his death, making their current hangout there even more impactful.
Georgia is let free on bail with an ankle monitor after the first court session, and after returning home and going to bed, is met with Ginny, who scolds her for her calm and relaxed demeanor after getting out and her impulsive decision to kill Tom, and claims maybe Georgia does belong in prison. When Ginny reveals to Georgia that Austin saw her kill Tom, Georgia breaks down, and Ginny decides to comfort her and tells her it’s them against the world.
The next morning, Ginny is seen running on the track alongside Max. Whilst underway, they talk about Ginny’s life since Georgia is back home and the bullying she’s facing at school, and Max tells her about her crush on Silver. Ginny dares Max to run back home in a race later. Whilst returning home, Ginny has breakfast with Georgia, Austin, and Paul, and says goodbye to them all before going to school. Ginny delivers Austin to his school and gives him the same advice that Georgia gave her in the past when she feared being bullied. When Ginny arrives at school, she immediately catches the friend group talking about Georgia’s arrest. When Press makes an ignorant comment about it to her, Abby hits him out of frustration. Jordan reveals Norah is at Tom’s funeral, which slightly disturbs Ginny. Max asks Ginny if she can come to the skate park to meet up with Silver later, but Ginny claims she can’t go due to poetry class. Hunter offers Ginny support before she leaves, and is mocked by the group after. Whilst underway to her class, Bracia immediately hugs Ginny and extends her support to her.
When Ginny arrives at AP English class, she notices Norah (who had just returned from Tom’s funeral) staring at her briefly, before looking away, which Ginny is sad. When Ginny returns home, she has dinner with Georgia, Austin, and Paul, who discuss their day at school. Zion comes in to take Ginny to poetry class, but Ginny decides to go there by herself on Zion’s bike, whilst Zion stays over for dinner instead.
At poetry class, Ginny reads her poem to the class, and Mr. Kay asks her about the title of the poem, but Ginny claims she didn’t give it one. Mr. Kay is impressed by her poem and helps her find a title in front of the group. At one point, Wolfe, another member of the poetry class, asks her to get ‘boba’. Ginny asks him what that is, and he reveals it’s a drink. Ginny politely declines. When Ginny returns home, she catches Georgia and Zion hugging each other goodbye and makes a sarcastic comment about their reconciliation.
When Bracia catches Ginny sitting alone in her car during the lunch break, she enters the car and asks her how she’s doing. The two proceed to have a heartfelt conversation in which Ginny opens up to Bracia about her issues with self-harming, which Bracia is very endeared by, claiming she’s willing to be Ginny’s one good friend she can confide in.
When Ginny is at work at Blue Farm, she talks to Padma for a while about their lives lately. When she sees Cynthia enter the restaurant, she rushes back to the kitchen. She has a severe panic attack because Cynthia reminds her of Georgia’s murder of Tom and the possible consequences she might face because of it. When Joe walks in and notices, he immediately comforts her by giving her a glass of water and telling her she’s allowed to go home early to cool down. Ginny immediately visits Marcus in his garage (that Ellen turned into an art studio for him) and vents to him about everything with Georgia, claiming she doesn’t even know if she should keep defending her. They proceed to have a conversation about Marcus’s depression, have some fun together messing around with the paint, and almost kiss, but ultimately decide not to do it. Ginny returns home and is immediately met by Georgia, who has just seen her interaction with Marcus. Marcus tells her that Lynette is going to come over for dinner.
During dinner, Lynette claims she’s there for Georgia, Ginny, and Austin, as family sticks together in a crisis. Still, the dinner turns south quickly when Georgia and Lynette get into an argument surrounding Georgia’s decision to move around in the past and never give Ginny and Austin stability. When Lynette snaps and claims Georgia should have given her custody of Ginny, Ginny excuses herself from the table and rushes outside, panicked. Georgia follows her outside and scolds her, telling her to get back inside. The two keep arguing while walking away from the house until Georgia’s ankle monitor goes off, and she’s stuck. Ginny proceeds to walk away, and Georgia looks at her in disbelief.
Ginny arrives at school and is alerted by Max about ‘Tulips and Tuxes’, a party hosted by the school held in the gym. Ginny is hesitant to go, and later asks Marcus if he’ll go, who claims he likely won’t, which affirms Ginny’s decision not to go either. When Ginny returns home, she talks to Georgia, and they talk about Georgia’s wrong use of the terms ‘gaslighting’ and ‘gassing up’ before Lynette walks in with more laundry. Georgia and Lynette encourage Ginny to go to ‘Tulips and Tuxes’, and Ginny gives in. Lynette also tells Ginny they are going for dinner at Zion’s place, along with Simone, Zion’s new girlfriend. Whilst at dinner, Lynette convinces Simone to help Ginny find a dress for ‘Tulips and Tuxes’, which Ginny and Zion act a bit awkward around, but make sure not to let Lynette notice.
Whilst shopping for a dress with Lynette and Simone, Ginny bumps into Abby and Nancy at the same store, and the two of them proceed to try on two different dresses together. Lynette chooses a long-sleeved red dress for Ginny, who pretends to like it, but secretly doesn’t. Abby makes fun of her dress, whereas Ginny compliments hers. When Abby remarks that she is not eating for a week to wear it, Ginny is slightly disturbed until Abby assures her it’s a joke. Together, they send a picture of their dresses to the MANG group chat.
On the evening of ‘Tulips and Tuxes’, Ginny wears a different dress that Simone picked for her. Lynette compliments her, and Zion takes a picture of Ginny, Lynette, Georgia, and Austin together, before sending Ginny on her way. Whilst underway along with Max, Jordan, Norah, and Abby, they joke around in the car. Ginny reveals she’s very excited for the party, and on arrival is impressed and shown having a lot of fun. They compliment Ellen on organizing the party, and later that night, when it’s revealed that Marcus did attend, it's in hindsight wasted. Marcus kisses Ginny whilst dancing. Ginny later calls Georgia at the party and enthusiastically tells her about how great the party is, as well as Hunter and Padma being together now. She ends the call by telling Georgia she loves her and wants her to be around for every future party, which lifts Georgia’s mood.
The next morning, Ginny, Georgia, and Austin are seen playing around in the yard with water pistols. They walk up to Lynette, who has just returned from the church and has come to say goodbye. She tells Georgia that if they ever need anything, she’s a phone call away. Lynette asks Ginny how the party was last night and notices that she is happy. She tells her that she left brunch at Zion’s place for them to eat together, before telling her she loves her and saying goodbye. Ginny later goes over to Zion to eat, and while eating, talks to Zion about her reconciliation with Marcus.
At school, Ginny and Norah are seen expressing disgust at Press and Samantha’s new relationship. When Max alerts MANG about Mr. Gitten’s classroom being vandalized during ‘Tulips and Tuxes’ and the school involving the police to search for the person responsible, Ginny gets shocked but assures her that neither she nor Georgia is guilty. Whilst in class, Ginny is sent to the principal’s office, where the principal, Mr. Gitten, and a police officer await her. Ginny immediately claims she didn’t do it, which Mr. Gitten and the principal believed anyway, but Marcus immediately walks in and owns up to it.
When Ginny is hanging out with Bracia and her friend group on the staircase, they discuss the party, Ginny’s relationship with Marcus, Bracia’s feelings for Bryon, and eventually, the group humorously talks about finding Zion attractive, which Ginny is repulsed by. Later that day, Ginny confronts Marcus, who is in a bad state after being suspended for the vandalizing incident, and he eventually tells her that he was drunk whilst kissing her at Tulips and Tuxes. He tells Ginny he doesn’t love her, which devastates her.
Ginny and Paul are seen running together, and after Paul leaves early for breakfast, Ginny tells Georgia about what Marcus had told her earlier and breaks down. Georgia comforts her. Later that day, Ginny is called into Austin’s school for a parent-teacher conversation along with Gil, after an incident involving Austin vandalizing the classroom. Ginny asks Georgia afterwards if they can take Austin to therapy, but Georgia claims it’s better if they wait until the trial is over first. Ginny goes to Dr. Lily’s later, and they share a conversation about her life lately. Whilst at poetry class, Ginny is immediately annoyed when Mr. Kay instructs the class to write a poem about love, and tells Wolfe she’s willing to get ‘boba’ with him this time.
Ginny and Wolfe get ‘boba’, and there Ginny tells him why she likes poetry, asking him about why he went to poetry class, considering he isn’t good at it nor likes it. Ginny reveals she has an ex and isn’t sure whether Wolfe is flirting with her, which he humorously owns up to. At Lawn Fest, Ginny is seen sitting at the face painting table along with Max, Norah, and Abby, and tells them about Wolfe. At one point, she notices Norah getting frightened when she discovers Georgia’s ankle monitor, and changes the topic by revealing Norah’s smut book, which all four of them laugh about.
Ginny walks up to Georgia’s room the night before the trial begins, and tells her about her date with Wolfe, which lightens Georgia’s mood. Ginny tells Georgia it’s going to be okay. Whilst at court, Ginny is seen attending along with Zion, Austin, Paul, and Ellen. When PI Cordova gives his testimony and reveals the secrets about Georgia’s past, including her previous three murders, Ginny is horrified. Georgia’s lawyer assures Ginny, Georgia, Austin, and Paul that everything will be alright, but due to the court case being broadcast in all of Wellsbury, Ginny and Georgia are no longer contacted by the Bakers or other Wellsbury friends. Zion calls multiple times, but Ginny doesn’t know what to tell him. Georgia comforts Ginny and makes Ginny play the song Wolfe sent her to make them laugh. The next morning, Georgia assures Ginny and Austin that everything will be alright and they can go to school as normal if they want to.
When Ginny enters school again for the first time since the court case, she’s immediately met with a news reporter hounding her about Georgia. Still, Padma and Hunter protect her from the reporter and bring her inside, for which Ginny thanks them. When Ginny walks up to MANG, she interrupts them as they are talking about Georgia and immediately apologizes, offering support. When Press makes another ignorant remark about Georgia, Ginny snaps and punches him in the face before running off. While outside, she sees the news reporter awaiting her at the entrance again and calls Wolfe, asking him to pick her up. He agrees and skips class to do so. When Wolfe arrives, Ginny runs to his car and enters it. Wolfe asks her about Georgia’s trial and her daughter going to her school, but Ginny pretends she has nothing to do with it and claims she couldn’t be at school today. Wolfe decides to take her somewhere, and whilst driving off, Ginny throws up a middle finger to the lingering reporter.
Wolfe takes Ginny to a science museum he’s familiar with, and together they explore the entire museum, having a good time and eventually sharing their first kiss. When Wolfe takes her home, he reveals Ginny has eleven missed calls from Zion, which worries her. They kiss goodbye again, but Marcus comes up to them, which leads to an awkward conversation between the two of them. After Marcus leaves, Ginny and Wolfe say goodbye again, and Ginny checks out her phone.
Ginny goes over to Zion, who is concerned after hearing PI Cordova’s statements about Georgia, and begs Ginny to tell him anything she might know. Ginny insists she doesn’t know anything and that none of what he said was factual, but eventually slips and reveals that Kenny touched Ginny inappropriately once, which makes Zion immediately furious. Ginny tries to backtrack and correct herself, but Zion becomes even more enraged when connecting the dots. Ginny leaves his house when Georgia calls her in a panic, and when returning home, it’s revealed that PI Cordova’s statements are now on national news.
At the next court case in which Georgia’s lawyer successfully had PI Cordova’s statements deemed inadmissible, Paul is noticeably absent. When Ginny, Georgia, and Austin return home, they are met with a swarm of news reporters on their property until Paul drags them into the house to protect them. Paul announces that he will be leaving their house for a while after he and Georgia broke up, but that he has arranged for a police escort to ensure their safe travel to school from now on.
When Ginny arrives at school with a police escort, the school is crowded with news reporters and students congregating to stare her down and record her arrival. Once inside, everyone is staring at Ginny, and at one point, she overhears her poem about Georgia coming from everyone’s phone. She walks up to Samantha and grabs her phone. It’s revealed that her poem went viral on social media with thousands of likes and comments, claiming the poem meant Ginny was aware of Georgia’s murders, potentially proving her guilt. Ginny is horrified at this and rushes home. Ginny immediately goes to her room, breaks down, and grabs the lighter to self-harm again. Still, Georgia interrupts her just in time and comforts her by claiming her poem is good, praising it and asking her to repeat it back, assuring Ginny that none of it is her fault, and begging her to open the door. Eventually, Ginny opens the door, and Georgia hugs her, assuring her again that it’s okay. When Georgia hears the bell ring, she goes downstairs to investigate, and Wolfe calls Ginny. He reveals that he discovered Ginny is ‘the girl with the mom,’ and when asked if he saw the poem online, he compliments her on her poem and makes a humorous comment about Mr. Kay, which briefly cheers Ginny up. But when Ginny hears Georgia being shocked downstairs, she hangs up and investigates. A social worker from DCFS takes Ginny and Austin away from the home after a welfare report was made, and it’s revealed that Zion made the report to get Ginny to live with him after the recent revelation of Georgia’s murders. Ginny resents him for this, but is forced into the car and driven away, whilst seeing Georgia break down on the front lawn, surrounded by police officers and news reporters.
Ginny has been living with Zion for a week, and is seen hanging out with Wolfe in her car. They kiss and discuss Ginny’s poem, which she’s writing. At one point, Zion calls Ginny, and Wolfe remarks that it’s late. Ginny asks Wolfe if his parents care if he’s home late, to which he claims they don’t. They proceed with their kiss. When Ginny returns home later, Zion scolds her for being so late without notice and grounds her, which leaves Ginny (who’s still mad at him for pulling her out of her house on national television last week) unfazed. Once in her room, Georgia calls her, but Ginny ends the call early and blocks her to prevent Georgia from getting in trouble by contacting her, devastating Georgia.
At school, Ginny talks to Bracia about her life in the past week since being taken by DCFS, and later on, after Bracia taunts Ginny for a visible hickey, proceeds to go to Max and Norah, who notice Ginny’s hickey as well. Norah offers to cover it for her in the bathroom, where they stumble upon Abby as well. The three share a conversation about Wolfe and Georgia currently being in court, before Abby humorously reveals even more hickeys Wolfe gave her by pulling down Ginny’s sleeve.
When Ginny returns home, Zion asks her if she has to go to work, but Ginny claims she took time off. When Zion asks her about her hickey and her relationship with Wolfe, Ginny becomes annoyed and claims Zion only has himself to blame for his increased responsibility over her. She blows up at him for being the reason Austin is now forced to live with Gil, before revealing to him that Gil abused Georgia and Austin’s actions were an act of defense, before storming off and asking Bracia if she’s willing to come along to a party in Cambridge along with her and Wolfe that evening.
At the party in Cambridge, Ginny is immediately bullied by someone for being the ‘Mayoress Murderess’s’ daughter. Still, Wolfe defends her and introduces himself to Bracia, and they proceed to party together. After Zion asks Max where Ginny is, Max texts Ginny, and Ginny reveals she’s at a party in Cambridge with Bracia. Later that night, whilst Ginny and Wolfe are in the laundry room, Georgia calls Ginny from Marcus’s phone, which leads to a puzzling notification from Marcus on her phone later.
After dropping off Wolfe from poetry class, Ginny calls Marcus, and they catch up briefly, which leads to some awkwardness between them after Marcus explains that Georgia called her from his phone while he was fixing her window. When Georgia and Austin arrive at their first approved visit at Georgia’s house with a social worker, the conversation quickly becomes emotional. When Ginny returns home, she tells Zion she hates him. Zion comforts her and apologizes for everything. Five weeks pass by, during which Ginny is seen watching the news to keep up with Georgia’s trial.
When MANG arranges an SOS meetup at Blue Farm, Ginny arrives. Max explains that she feels MANG hasn’t been acting like their normal selves recently, which Ginny understands, and opens up about feeling judged by Norah, who apologizes but claims she’s tense because of her periods and scared that she may be pregnant. When she reveals she has several pregnancy tests in her bag, Max says all of MANG should take one, and Ginny’s test ends up positive.
Stunned from the revelation of her pregnancy, Ginny is in a constant state of distraction, which Max takes notice of whilst hanging out. When Wolfe comes over and introduces himself to MANG, Ginny is thankful for the drink he brought her, but she is still visibly stressed. Padma and Hunter encourage Ginny to hand in her poem for the laureate poem contest, which Ginny claims she’ll consider before telling Norah she has to speak to her mom about something and leaving. Although she gets to speak to Georgia during the approved visit with the social worker later that day, and Georgia can feel something’s bothering Ginny, Ginny doesn’t feel comfortable saying it to her during the visit and acts like nothing’s wrong. When Zion asks her how she’s doing that evening, Ginny dismisses him and claims she wants her mom.
When Ginny leaves for her poetry class after a conversation with Mr. Kay about her poem, she rushes to Wolfe. She tells him she’s pregnant, to which a surprisingly relaxed but visibly perplexed Wolfe responds, ‘That’s wild, ’ before slowly driving off, leaving Ginny puzzled and humiliated.
When Max talks to Ginny, Ginny claims she must talk to her mom, but she can’t just go to her house and sneak in because of the news reporters. Max and Sophie help Ginny sneak in by causing a commotion in front of the news reporters to promote the ‘Mousse’ musical, which works and helps Ginny enter the house without anyone noticing. Ginny tells Georgia she’s pregnant, and despite being visibly shocked, she immediately comforts and hugs Ginny. She sits her down and tells her that, despite Ginny and Austin being the most beautiful things that have ever come into her life, a baby is a huge sacrifice. She knows Ginny has more to life destined for her, before telling her that ultimately, she will support Ginny, whatever her decision is. When Ginny reveals she doesn’t want to have the baby, she immediately supports her. She makes Ginny take another pregnancy test and asks her about Wolfe’s reaction, before calling the hospital and making an appointment for her. Georgia urges Ginny not to go alone, but Ginny assures Georgia she’ll be fine.
Ginny arrives at the hospital and has her abortion. Afterwards, she leaves the ward and is met by Marcus, whom Georgia had convinced to wait up for Ginny at the hospital afterwards to support her. Ginny is happy to see him, and the two of them eat ice cream together while talking about recent events at the park. Marcus drops Ginny off at home, and after taking a bath, Georgia sets up for her. Ginny sits with Georgia on the couch, and they watch TV together. When Zion arrives to pick her up, he has a heartfelt conversation with Ginny about what happened. Later, after Ginny interrupts Georgia and Zion arguing in the kitchen, Zion takes Ginny home. Later that night, Ginny comes over to Zion in the living room and watches a movie with him.
Ginny arrives at her poetry class again and is met by Wolfe, who apologizes to Ginny for his reaction to her pregnancy earlier. Ginny tells him that everything is already handled and claims what he said was very hurtful, but forgives him nonetheless, before suggesting that maybe this whole experience proves the two of them shouldn’t be together. Whilst walking into poetry class, Ginny tells Mr. Kay her actual name is not ‘Gia’ but Ginny, and is complimented on her poem by Mr. Kay.
Ginny arrives at school, and Marcus asks her how she’s doing, to which Ginny replies she’s fine. When Abby asks on behalf of Marcus, Ginny responds that she’s no longer dating Wolfe, claiming they were never really a thing to begin with. Abby tells Ginny that her dad wants to have dinner with her and his new girlfriend Anna, and asks Ginny if she’d be willing to join to support her, which Ginny agrees to. The dinner doesn’t go as planned, and after multiple crass comments exchanged between Abby and her father, Anna asks Ginny instead how she’s doing, who responds that her mother is on trial for murder, which Abby and John affirm, leaving Anna shocked. After briefly talking to Joe and Padma, Ginny notices Abby returning from the bathroom, looking pale and throwing up. The two return to the table, and after Abby storms off when hearing John and Anna live together, Ginny follows suit after thanking them for doing the dinner.
Norah tells Ginny that she is watching Zach during a playdate with Austin and offers her the opportunity to see him there, which Ginny is very grateful for and hugs Norah. At an approved visit in Georgia with a social worker later that day, Ginny tells Georgia she’s fine. Still, the approved visit is interrupted by Gil, who arrived early with a black eye to pick up Austin. When Paul enters later, Ginny is surprised by Georgia and Paul’s reconciliation, but has to leave before she can ask her about it. When visiting Cynthia’s house to see Austin, she greets him and afterwards sees some suspicious letters on the table in the hallway.
When Norah walks up to Ginny, Ginny asks her if she thinks Abby might have an eating disorder, which Norah suspects as well. They decide to go to her and verbatim ask her about it. When Abby is visibly caught off guard by this and gets defensive, Ginny reveals she used to self-harm and had an abortion last week to make Abby feel less embarrassed. Abby eventually gives in, but urges Ginny and Norah not to tell her mom or Max about any of this, before deciding to egg her dad's and his new girlfriend’s house after reminding herself of Ginny’s story of egging Zion’s girlfriend’s house with Georgia when they were younger. The three of them put on disguises, drove up to the house, and egged it. Abby tells them she has a crush on Tris whilst egging the house, but asks them not to tell Max.
After Georgia and Paul break up and Paul withdraws all of his public support from Georgia, Ginny rants to Marcus about hating him while hanging out at the skate park at night. When Ginny receives a phone call from Georgia, who self-surrendered after attempting to run away and is now in jail, she is extremely disappointed and saddened upon the news of Georgia attempting to leave them, and encourages Georgia that there’s still hope for her case, before walking away after the call.
Ginny alerted Simone about the situation and asked her if she could help out Georgia. Still, she overhears Simone telling Zion that the only reason she said yes is because she couldn’t say no to Ginny. Ginny and Zion have a conversation about this later.
Ginny goes to Austin’s school and is met by Gil, who informs her that he will be moving Austin to Michigan to live with him there. This angers Ginny, and she claims that she’s his sister, and it’s a bad idea. Gil tells Ginny he has no problems with her and that she was always a nice girl, but that Ginny is merely his half-sister. When Ginny snaps at him by claiming he’s horrible and an abuser, Gil physically attacks her and tells her she’s starting to turn into her mother, but Cynthia interferes and threatens Gil with pepper spray. Gil leaves, and Cynthia asks Ginny if she’s alright. However, Ginny decides to walk to Austin and tells him about Gil’s plan to move him away. She asks him to incriminate Gil as Tom’s murderer in court to protect Georgia and get Gil out of their lives. Austin is noticeably hesitant, but Ginny tells him it’s either him or Georgia.
When Ginny arrives at school, Max immediately notices Ginny’s bruises on her arm from her previous altercation with Gil, but Ginny claims she doesn’t want to talk about it. At lunch, Norah tries to cheer Ginny up by telling her about Joe and Cynthia’s affair at Blue Farm being recorded, which Ginny is shocked by but keeps in mind. When Abby arrives at the table and eats a large slice of pizza, Ginny and Norah stare at her into making her promise she won’t be purging again. When Max arrives at the table, Abby accidentally reveals that the three of them went egging her dad’s house, and Ginny accidentally reveals she went to dinner with them earlier, which leads Max to feel excluded. The three of them promise Abby they will see her at Mousse tonight to make her feel better. When Ginny gets home, she overhears Simone telling Zion that Georgia will likely lose the case.
Ginny visits Georgia in jail that evening, and Ginny tells her about Joe and Cynthia’s affair, but realizes Georgia already knew. Georgia claims the reason she couldn’t bring herself to bring it up in court was because she didn’t want to do that to Cynthia. When Ginny reveals that Gil plans to move Austin with him to Michigan, Georgia tells Ginny that Austin will be fine and that he would only ever hurt Georgia. When Ginny reveals what Gil did to her earlier that day, Georgia is stunned, but assures her again that Austin will be fine and Ginny should never hear from him again. Georgia is defeated and claims she is aware she’ll likely lose the case. She tears up as the visit comes to an end and embraces Ginny before being escorted out of the visitation room.
Ginny goes over to Cynthia’s place and tells her about her plan to incriminate Gil for the murder. The conversation makes Cynthia uncomfortable, and she tells Ginny to leave. Still, Ginny insists, and at one point blackmails her into it by revealing what Norah told her about Joe and Cynthia’s affair at Blue Farm being recorded, which makes Cynthia reconsider. Ginny claims she will not give up on her mother and will take it to this extent if she has to.
At the final court case of the trial, Austin followed Ginny’s advice. He named Gil as the person who murdered Tom, and Cynthia (who received multiple encouraging stares from Ginny during the statement) affirms it, leading to Georgia (who’s unaware of what happened) being found innocent at last. After the trial, Simone tells Ginny and Austin they can go home tomorrow if they want to, which they are both happy about. When Ginny and Austin arrive back home, Georgia is ecstatic to see them again. Ginny tells Georgia that she and Zion will go to Korea together this summer holiday, along with telling her that she wants Zion to eventually get partial custody of her, which Georgia is surprised by but amicably agrees to. When Ginny enters her room again, she talks with Georgia about potentially moving again, but not wanting to, due to wanting to stand still and not being able to escape their now-public identities anyway. They humorously reflect on the turbulent situations they have been through in the past year. Ginny reunites with Marcus, who’s happy to see her again, and together they have a conversation about Max telling their parents about his, in his opinion, overblown drinking problems.
On the last day of the school year, Ginny enters the classroom and is immediately complimented by Norah on her hair. Brodie sarcastically congratulates her on her mom not being found guilty. The teacher congratulates Ginny on winning the poem and says she’s excited for her to recite it at the end-of-the-year school event. Once there, she recites the poem in front of the entire school, along with Georgia, Zion, Simone, Lynette, and Wolfe being in the audience. After the event, Georgia compliments her on her poem and is happy for her. When Ginny sees Wolfe, she tells Georgia it’s him, and Georgia claims she’ll kill him before Zion steps in. When Georgia tells Zion that Wolfe’s the guy who got Ginny pregnant earlier, he joins in on the joke. Ginny briefly talks to Wolfe, but they are soon interrupted by Marcus, whom Ginny proceeds to ask why he was sent to the principal’s office earlier. Still, he claims it was just his wallet that was found, and Abby and Norah will talk to Ginny about what awaits them next school year.
Whilst getting ready for the end of the school year party in Brodie’s basement, Georgia comes up to Ginny’s room after finding out from Cynthia what happened with the trial after all. It tells her off for what she did with Cynthia by claiming Ginny is not allowed to be like Georgia. Ginny defends herself by claiming she did what she had to do, and tells Georgia that she hopes she will not regret doing so for her. She walks off, but not before telling Georgia that she and Austin have always been affected by Georgia’s decisions. Ginny later climbs into Marcus’s room and asks him if he’s going to the party. He initially says no, but goes anyway in the end.
At the party in Brodie’s basement, Ginny talks to Marcus and asks him if he thinks she will likely be destined to be like Georgia in the future, which Marcus claims she won’t be. When Max approaches them, she tells Ginny she’s happy Georgia was found not guilty. She asks if she can talk alone with Marcus. Later on, she tries to join in on Ginny, Abby, and Norah when they’re dancing, but then asks Ginny if they can talk privately, which Ginny agrees to. Max explains to Ginny that she feels bad about not being there for her and their friendship feeling distant, to which Ginny responds, "Maybe they just grew apart a little, and that's okay." Max is noticeably affected by this and claims she doesn’t want that to be okay, but Ginny apologizes and leaves. When Max drags a wasted Marcus out of the party later, Ginny asks if she needs help, but Max tells her off, leaving Ginny concerned.
Ginny climbs into Marcus’s room again after the party, and he asks her to read him the sunshine poem she wrote for him, and comes clean to her about likely not graduating with the rest of the class. When Ginny notices a severely intoxicated Marcus urinating himself in bed, she gets very disturbed. When Ellen enters the room, she politely recommends that Ginny probably leave, and a concerned Ginny leaves his room. It’s later revealed that Ginny wrote down and gave Marcus the sunshine poem she had written for him while he was undergoing rehab, along with Ellen.
Ginny makes her last appearance of the season whilst sitting in the kitchen and reading a book about the Korean language, likely preparing for her upcoming trip there with Zion. When Georgia enters the kitchen, she smiles at her. But when she sees Georgia drinking a lot of milk, she suddenly thinks back to what Georgia told her about drinking a lot of milk only when she’s pregnant. She asks her if she just drank the milk, as if she were pregnant, leaving both Georgia and Ginny in disbelief.
Personality[]
Ginny is caring and does not intend to hurt others, intentionally or otherwise. She is especially protective of her younger half-brother, Austin, genuinely wanting him to have everything good in his life. She is more mature than her mother, Georgia, who criticises her decisions and attitude many times. However, Ginny can also be selfish, self-absorbed, and oblivious to the needs of others. She acts impulsively at times. She gets blunt and confrontational under stress. She is an academically bright student, consistently earning good grades. Ginny is often upset about people's attitudes towards her biracial identity.
Physical Appearance[]

Ginny has brown curly hair and light brown skin. She also has freckles and dark brown eyes. She is very skinny and quite short with a height of 5'1''. Ginny is seen with a range of different hairstyles, including loose, single bun, and double bun. She straightens her hair for her 16th birthday and wears it straight for a few days. Her dress sense is casual and 'boring' according to Maxine; however, she becomes more trendy as the season goes on.
