Joe is a 30 year old man who lives in Wellsbury, Massachusetts. He is the owner of the Blue Farm Cafe. He is portrayed by Raymond Ablack, while his teenage counterpart is portrayed Yatharth Bhatt respectively.
History[]
Background[]
Not much is known about Joe’s past. He grew up in Wellsbury, Massachusetts.
When Joe was on a school trip underway to the next stop, Fort Jackson, the bus made a quick stop at a bus station in Georgia. Upon getting a school lunch and sitting down on a table, he sees a girl with a backpack standing alone, and invites her to sit with him. The girl turns out to be Georgia. Joe and Georgia have a conversation about his school trip and him being from Wellsbury, among other things such as Joe wanting to have a farm and Georgia always having wanted a horse called Milkshake. When Joe has to get back on the bus, he lets Georgia keep his Ray-Ban sunglasses, and Georgia tells him that she’ll look Joe up if she’s ever in Wellsbury. Georgia always kept those sunglasses, and Joe always remembered their interaction.
When Joe was back at Wellsbury High from his school trip, he talks to somebody from his school about the trip, what happened to his Ray-Bans and about him having found the answers to a school project, but Joe later gets shoved by a bully. Joe decides to stand up for himself and hits the bully in the face, but afterwards gets hit back way harder to the point he’s laying on the floor.
Throughout The Series[]
Season 1[]
Joe first appears when walking up to Georgia, who instantly calls him by his first name, which confuses Joe at first until he realizes it’s his name tag. When Paul enters the restaurant, he tells Georgia that Joe has his own farm, which impresses Georgia. Georgia helps promote Joe’s Blue Farm business at the school evening in front of the people of Wellsbury.
After catching Ginny stealing, Georgia decides to take her to Blue Farm and when she sees Joe she asks him if Ginny could work there. Although Joe is reluctant at first, he eventually gives in and lets her work at Blue Farm.
At Sophomore Sleepover, Joe asks Georgia to help him with handing out to the students. When Georgia accidentally spills some mustard on her sweater, Joe is quick to help her and tells her ‘Don’t cry over spilled condiments’, a direct quote from their earlier interaction as teenagers.
Throughout the season, Joe is seen throughout Blue Farm running the business and helping Ginny when necessary at her new job. When Joe catches an awkward interaction between Ginny and Marcus at the register, she sarcastically asks Ginny not to be so passive aggressive towards the customers.
When Georgia comes to the restaurant, they have an interaction where they discuss things about their lives. Georgia is visibly shocked when she hears that Joe has a horse named Milkshake, which was again a direct reference to their interaction as teenagers. Georgia asks Joe if he’s willing to come to her Casino Night that evening, but Joe politely refuses, claiming he’s not the type of guy that wears suits. Georgia tells him that she wishes he’d come, claiming he’d look good in a suit. Joe ends up attending in a suit, much to the surprise of Georgia.
When Georgia’s sister Maddie is in town, they go to Blue Farm together, and hang out and end up dancing with Joe. When they bring a drunk Maddie home, they carry her to bed together. After she’s in bed, they briefly look at each other in a romantic way, until Paul quickly interrupts, and Joe leaves.
When Ginny leaves work one day, Joe recognizes her sunglasses as his own ones that he gave Georgia as teenagers, and when Ginny explains the origin of how Georgia got them at a bus stop, he remembers their interaction fully, and as soon as he sees Georgia entering he wants to officially declare his feelings for her and mention the sunglasses, but is quickly interrupted by Ellen who talks to Georgia about the engagement to Paul, leaving Joe saddened and walking off.
Season 2[]
At Thanksgiving, Georgia comes to pick up something for Thanksgiving until Georgia notices Cynthia entering and claims she looks terrible. Joe tells her to be kind as Cynthia is dealing with a dying husband, and proceeds to give Cynthia her order for free, which surprises Georgia.
When Ginny moves back in with Georgia, Georgia tells her that if she wants to eat after the previous evening of refusing to eat Georgia’s food, she should work, and try to get her job back at Blue Farm. Joe is initially reluctant to give Ginny her job back after bailing randomly for 2 months, but eventually gives in.
Joe agrees to have Blue Farm be where the talent night is hosted, and he attempts at making a little comedy segment, which doesn’t go as planned, but is laughed at by Cynthia, with whom he shares a kiss with later that night, but Cynthia quickly regrets it and walks off. This results in a few awkward encounters with Cynthia.
On Christmas Evening, Georgia enters Blue Farm after seeing Joe all alone. Joe is surprised to see Georgia there, but she explains her Christmas dinner not working out and together they talk about an ideal Christmas and their families. Eventually, Georgia tells Joe that what she likes best about him is her never feeling judged by Joe. She hugs him, and walks away, but not before noticing a little horse called Milkshake by the counter.
Later that night, Cynthia enters Blue Farm, and Joe and her sleep together that night, and spend some time together at the bar the following days as a result.
Joe lets Blue Farm be the location of Georgia’s bachelor party, but is visibly saddened at knowing Georgia is getting married soon, which is evident in their conversation near the end of the evening, which is interrupted by Ginny.
When Cynthia tells Georgia she’s slept with Joe, Georgia is stunned, and when Georgia is visited by Joe later that evening, she confronts him about it. Joe returns the Ray-Bans he gave her as teenagers, and asks her at last if she knows what they are, and expresses confusion about her motives. Georgia tells him she’s getting married, and tells him there’s nothing she doesn’t think about, which upsets them both, with Joe leaving disappointed and Georgia laying down on her bed, visibly affected by their conversation.
Joe is seen attending Georgia and Paul’s wedding, but waiting in the lobby after the ceremony. He’s joined by Marcus, and they talk about why they really came to the wedding. Eventually, they decide to go upstairs at last, and join the wedding.
When Georgia is arrested and taken to the cop car by the arresting officers, he stands with the rest of the crowd, looking confused and shocked about what’s happening.

Romances[]
Georgia (flirt, potential crush)[]
Joe met Georgia back when they were teenagers at a bus stop in Georgia, moments after Georgia found out she was pregnant whilst Joe and the rest of his class were taking a stop during a school trip underway to Fort Jackson. Despite their interaction being brief, both appear to have remembered it which is made clear when they encounter each other years later in Wellsbury, accompanied by the fact that Joe gave Georgia his Ray-Ban sunglasses which Georgia has always kept and according to Ginny claims is the nicest thing she’s ever owned, given to her by ‘someone at a bus station’, meaning Joe. Although they seem to like each other, because of the fact both seem to not exactly remember if they met before combined with Georgia quickly getting into a relationship with Paul upon her arrival in Wellsbury, they never become an actual couple, but there’s been multiple times where both have seemed to be close to confessing their feelings for each other and even other people (like Maddie, Georgia’s sister) noticing chemistry between them.
